Case Study – Health & Safety

LSS have been present at Invista in Gloucestershire for a number of years with over 220 LSS employees engaged in the manufacture of nylon and the provision of other support functions. LSS employees are permanent members of staff and are seen as co-workers working alongside the Invista staff.

Invista has a worldwide enviable position as a driver of excellence in Health and Safety management and practice. Most of their policies and procedures are of a higher level than statutory requirements and those who work with them on their premises are quickly inducted to their way of working.

The processes are undertaken in a potentially dangerous environment, which is hot, heavily mechanised and set on several vertical levels. All of which present risk and hazards to employees, more so than the risk of fire or explosion.

Weekly safety meetings are held with all service providers on each site and full reports are prepared in advance. All accidents, irrespective of severity are given the highest possible attention from Invista and even a small cut to a finger will demand procedures and reporting well in excess of those required by statute.

LSS recruit, test and train the operatives on behalf of Invista and have full responsibility for their productivity, output and quality. LSS provide induction training in conjunction with Invista, regular toolbox talks on a whole range of subjects, on-going training and the benefit of site management and safety management on call 24 hours a day.

Working in this environment, where safety is recognisably placed above profit at all times, LSS have not only been successful in their operation but have been recognised for safety and zero accident working hours over long periods.
